Heath equity starts here.

Because every mother matters

MOTHERLINES Foundation is a public health non-profit dedicated to addressing maternal and infant health inequities in Australia.

We provide free, evidence- based prenatal supplements to pregnant Australian women holding a government-issued concession card, removing financial barriers to essential maternal nutrition.

The optimal nutritional status of the mother has been identified as the most important non-genetic factor for the healthy development of the baby.¹

The Problem
We Address

motherlines Foundation envisions a future where every Australian woman—regardless of income, geography, or cultural background—has access to the resources needed for a healthy pregnancy, ensuring a thriving start for their children.

Deficiency of micronutrients during pregnancy can give rise to complications including anaemia, preterm birth, low birth weight, as well as long-term risks of chronic diseases for the child, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.¹⁻⁵

Research shows that micronutrient deficiencies are prevalent among Australian women of childbearing age, particularly among those from low-income backgrounds. For example:

IRON

Up to 25% of pregnant Australian women experience iron deficiency anemia, which is associated with poor birth outcomes, including increased maternal illness, low birth weight, prematurity and intrauterine growth restriction.⁶⁻⁷

IODINE

Up to 18% of Australian women of childbearing age have an iodine deficiency.⁸ Iodine deficiency remains a concern, as adequate iodine is essential for foetal brain development and severe iodine deficiency in pregnancy impairs brain development in the child.⁹

CHOLINE

Only 25% of pregnant Australian women meet the recommended intake for choline, a nutrient essential for foetal brain development.¹⁰

However, research suggests that 25% of pregnant Australian women aren't taking the pregnancy vitamins they need because they're too expensive.¹¹

Motherlines Foundation is on a mission to change that.

This one-of-a-kind prenatal pilot program demonstrates our vision to reimagine access to healthcare and wellbeing for all.

The prenatal
pilot-program

Our flagship initiative provides 10 months of essential prenatal vitamins to eligible women, ensuring equitable access to vital maternal nutrition.

Our prenatal multivitamin features bioavailable forms and evidence-based dosages of key nutrients. The formula proudly includes Kakadu plum (Terminalia ferdinandiana), a nutrient-dense fruit endemic to the monsoonal tropics of Northern Australia. Kakadu Plum has a long history of use by Indigenous Australians and has important medicinal and nutritional value in Aboriginal cultures.

How it works

Motherlines Foundation is a DGR registered charity that uses profits from the sale of the  prenatal multivitamin through our for-profit partner Land Lab to fund the Foundation.

These funds, combined with philanthropic donations and grants, subsidise the delivery of prenatal vitamins to Australian women experiencing disadvantage.

Outcomes we strive for

Direct access to essential supplements, eliminating the financial barrier to improving health.

Improved maternal health and reduced pregnancy complications.

Healthier birth outcomes and long-term health for infants.

Empowered communities through improved health equity, education and support.

At Motherlines Foundation, we're on a mission to bridge the gap in maternal healthcare. We envision a future where every Australian woman—regardless of income, geography, or cultural background—has access to the resources needed for a healthy pregnancy, ensuring a thriving start for their children.

From the soil to the lab, and from the lab to the land, our work combines Indigenous knowledge, modern science, and heartfelt compassion to create lasting impact.

Health equity starts here—because every Mother matters.
